Below is an update from my friends Eric and Katie who are missionaries in Iceland. Please consider praying and supporting their work in Iceland on a regular basis, as you read their letter.
**********************************************
These first three months have flown by. We have had an amazing time, met some wonderful people (new friends) and seen God do so many things. There is sooo much to tell you, but I will be brief.
What is God doing in Iceland?
One of the biggest ways God is moving here is among the churches. A couple of months ago there was a conference that was attended, by most of the church leaders from all of Iceland. This was a major feat in it´s self. The fact that God got all of these leaders in one building at the same time was a miracle. Many of these leaders have been part of church splits in the past. God used this conference to bring unity and healing among the churches. There seems to be a major shift in the spiritual climate of Iceland with this new found unity beginning to emerge. God is also moving in Iceland through healing. There have been hundreds of people healed in the last month and a half from broken bones, to people having their hearing restored. It has been quite a display of God´s power and has opened doors for the message of Jesus. It is such a joy to see my God and creator make Himself known in such an incredible way. People are coming to know Jesus. Hallelujah!! There has been a lot of drug dealers who have given their lives to Jesus, also pimps and prostitutes coming to know Jesus as saviour. It is amazing to see these people as they minister for the Lord in the prisons and on the streets. They are a very special group of people. They carry the love of God in a special way.
What is next for Katie and I?
We are leaving Iceland next monday morning, December 17. We will be in Charlotte, NC for 3 weeks to spend time with family and friends, and then we will say goodbye, again, and depart for Turku, Finland, to attend a 24-7 Prayer conference.
We will return to Iceland on January 14, this time we will be accompanied by good friends, Mark and Magdelana Daley. We will be living, eating, praying & ministering together, and we are very excited for them to join us.
We will be starting language school on January 15th and continue our quest to read, write, and understand the icelandic language.
Please pray about joining us for one of our conferences or for any of the 24-7 teams that will be working with us next year.
How you can pray for us?
First let me state that God has been so good to us. Those of you who have been to Iceland know how expensive it is to be here. God has taken care of our every need. We have been simply amazed at His outlandish love for us. Here, in no particular order, are some of the things we are praying for and about. 1.) That God would draw us close to Him and Jesus in intimacy. 2.) We need $1300 for the flights from Charlotte to Stockholm and from Stockholm to Reykjavik. (We are taking a ferry to Turku from Stockholm. Much cheaper this way). 3.) There is a building that we are looking at that would be a perfect fit for our ministry and it would provide a place for us to live as well. Please pray that God would provide the funds to purchase this building or that he would give it to us. 4.) Pray for a place for Katie, Mark, Magdelana and I to stay while we are waiting for this other building. As of our return we have no place for the 4 of us to stay. If we have to rent a place it will be quite expensive. So please pray that God would provide a place that is big enough for us to live and have guest and that is free or very cheap. 5.) We have 2 specific prayer requests that we can not put in this email but please join us in praying for them. God will know what you are praying for. 6.) Monthly funding from people interested in helping us spread the gospel here in Iceland. We are living here on an incredibly low amount of money. God has really stretched our money in incredible ways. 7.) Please join us in prayer for a quick understanding of Icelandic. Please pray that we will speak Icelandic quickly. 8.) Pray for Glætan Bókakaffi, the coffee shop that our friends Siggi and Sæunn, have opened here in Reykjavik. It is a place where the love of God is shown. Pray that people would come in and buy lot of books about Jesus and buy lot of coffee. 9.) It will cost us $200 for our Icelandic Language course.
